Army work in progress pics 12/10/2010

Von'Ryn Cadre Deathrains

Ok here is the latest pictures of what I'm working on. I tend to jump from unit to unit to keep my interest and attention as I can get bored easily. I'll work by doing something like base coating 1 unit, then drybrushing another one next, then switching to inking another one.  At the moment I've only really got 1 full squad painted, everything else is in base coat or undercoat stages whilst I've been re-teaching myself how to paint after 5 years.  I've tried to add some interesting stuff after the break.

1750 Tau list

I think I've got a list to suit my play style, it's 1745 and builds from the list that got such a beating on Monday.  As I'm writing the list I'm going over in my head how each unit can be used, and how I can use the synergy between units to back each other up and focus fire. It's got lots of yummy units and some that can be refitted depending on how they perform or how I feel the wargear/weapons are working out. This list will not be used or posted until 2 criteria have been met.

1) I need to buy additional models to make this work (and magnetize them)
2) It will be fully painted in my new scheme that's been running through my head. The suits and tanks will mirror this scheme, suits either having blue shoulders like the troops, or having blue centre stripes.

Hamerhead and other WIP

Here's some shots of the how my Hammerhead is currently looking. I've started to work on blending in the engine mounts but sadly the right side one decided to drop off as the glue didn't hold well. I'll be pinning it in place and working on it more this week in between painting Crisis Suits and undercoating/base coating my Broadsides.

The canards sit level with the landing gear, I'll probably use some plasicard to amour place the cockpit a bit more

Still undecided about the Burst Cannon location and which types of Cannon to use (Stealth, Crisis, Devilfish)

Broadsides waiting to be undercoated, I'm currently switching between the Deathrains and the Firestorms for painting projects atm. The disgraced Heatforge team in the background have been disarmed and will soon be re-equipped.

The closest I have to a finished model, I'm loving the red over grey and look forward to seeing how the Devilfish and Hammerhead will look.

The Hammerhead is going to look aaaaaawesome when done, I need to make sure not to ruin a decent conversion with a crappy paint job or poorly thought out colour scheme. I prefer the red instead of the yellow for the Crisis Suits but might keep the yellow for HQ or the Firewarriors.  I think i'll just do a single Firestorm as a test model for the Heavy Arms look and if it turns out bad then it's easy to change 1 model instead of 3!

Commander Crap'pose

Here he is, I'll be honest i don't think he'll ever see battle, it's going to be chalked up as a lesson learned in resin assembly.

front

No matter how I look at it, he looks like a Scarecrow with a pole jammed up his ass.

I still can't understand how Forgeworld still went with such a shitty design for the ankles. I mean seriously if you're re-designing crisis suits why is the only thing you keep familiar is the utterly crap ass designed ankles? They even managed to make the new feet less stable that the old ones.
I love the XV9's but dear god do I hate the design of the feet and ankles with a passion!

lots of photo's incoming!

Finally found my data cable so here is the WIP pictures of the Heatwave-Forge suits and the Commander. I'll be honest I hate the pose of the commander and should have took more time on him. Resin is a total pig to work with and he's now sitting on 2 broken ankles and 2 snapped elbows. I can't do what I want with him so i'll likely be starting from scratch.

First up is the Heatwave-Forge brothers, their poses are all set so now I just need to work on some fine filing to get rid of the cast seams and where stuff was prevously mounted/stuck.

Twin-linked Flamer
Close up of righty's twin linked flamer. Felt that if you're doing a conversion like this you really need the 2 ignitors or it just doesn't look right. The flamers will likey get more work done on them, either piping or additional fuel tanks.

Crisis Suit Teaser

As i knew i'd have a bit of free time on my hands in Scotland, I brought over my assembled models and paints soI could undercoat and get the base colours down.
So far only 1 of my crisis suits has been base coated, washed and then highlighted. I then did the contrast colour just to see how it looks and was well impressed.
The heads, missile pods and feet are also grey now.

So far i've just got some grey and yellow down on the model, I need to work out if I still want to add blue or not.
the army scheme came from watching various Mecha Anime like Patlabor, Appleseed and lots and lots of Gundam.
