Hamerhead and other WIP

Here's some shots of the how my Hammerhead is currently looking. I've started to work on blending in the engine mounts but sadly the right side one decided to drop off as the glue didn't hold well. I'll be pinning it in place and working on it more this week in between painting Crisis Suits and undercoating/base coating my Broadsides.

The canards sit level with the landing gear, I'll probably use some plasicard to amour place the cockpit a bit more

Still undecided about the Burst Cannon location and which types of Cannon to use (Stealth, Crisis, Devilfish)

Broadsides waiting to be undercoated, I'm currently switching between the Deathrains and the Firestorms for painting projects atm. The disgraced Heatforge team in the background have been disarmed and will soon be re-equipped.

The closest I have to a finished model, I'm loving the red over grey and look forward to seeing how the Devilfish and Hammerhead will look.

The Hammerhead is going to look aaaaaawesome when done, I need to make sure not to ruin a decent conversion with a crappy paint job or poorly thought out colour scheme. I prefer the red instead of the yellow for the Crisis Suits but might keep the yellow for HQ or the Firewarriors.  I think i'll just do a single Firestorm as a test model for the Heavy Arms look and if it turns out bad then it's easy to change 1 model instead of 3!

Hammerhead conversion

Well once it hits Sunday I'll be starting work on converting a Hammerhead using this as a template.

The original model was posted by blood&iron on Advanced Tau Tactica in this old thread.

I'll see tonight if I can dig out painted finished conversion pics.

I won't be using that crazy SMS set up and will likely put the Burst Cannons underslung tucked in beside the front engines as I've marked here.

Something about this just makes the tank seem much meaner and more like the Helicopter Gunship that is discussed on the forums instead of a tank that just hovers slowly a few feet of the ground. It looks like an aggressive tank killer and I love that idea. I'll be making sure to take my time with this as I want it to be really impressive, expect work in progress picks on Sunday evening!

Piranhas

Nipped up to the local GW today to purchase a Piranha and so i could check out the sprue to see if my planned conversion would be possible.
I'm thinking of rolling with a squadron of 3 of these guys with disruptor pods, Fusion Blasters and probably Targeting Arrays (i hate missing!)
The thing that gets me about Piranhas is that when ever I see them, i think about the Covenant Ghosts from Halo. There is something about the model that I just don't like in standard form and if I'm going to be rolling in these pesky skimmers, I'll be using some heavily converted ones.
The first one I've bought will server as a test bed for the other 3. I'm planning something fairly ambitious, basically I'm wanting my Piranha to look a bit like my all time favorite aircraft, one I've loved since a kid...
The A-10 Warthog :)
The problem I've got with this is that after watching Terminator Salvation, the Warthog would fit perfectly with a Imp Guard army. I'm sure with a little plasticard and a Valkyrie kit it would be fairly easy to knock one up.
I however plan to do this using only Tau parts and the Piranha frame. It's a bold task but I want these Piranha's to really stand out.
This won't be a quick conversion and as I'm just starting out it might be a while till I can get pictures up but I'll make sure to record my process. I also picked up yet another Codex (That's 3 I have now!) So i can mess about making an army list up. I really need to just leave a codex in my case so when I come back to Scotland I don't have to keep buying a new one as i've left my books in Ireland!
