9th game goes bad against Space Wolves

1750 points, 5 objectives.

I was up against the main Space Wolf player of our club today. It was a quickly organised match to help him get practise for the upcoming Gaelcon event.   Due to time constraints we only got to do 3 full turns as we were using a local gaming store as the match location.

Dave won with 2 objectives to my nil, with more time all I could have really done is play for a draw.  I planned to set up in a corner and use my 2 Kroot walls to protect my flank but for some reason I felt the need to make a 2nd firebase with a Command Fireknive team and a Deathrain team.  This was silly as they then had no support and had to hog a building for protection against the Longfangs.  I deployed wrong, I split fire, and I didn't focus on the Thunderwolves.  I basically gave Dave the game on a plate.

I survived a hail of fire on turn 1 from 3 Longfang squads and Bjorn the Objective-Marker, loosing only 2 Kroot. My return fire was 1 immobilised Rhino and a wounded Thunderwolf (from the Kroot hehe).  From 2 Hammerheads, 2 Broadsides, and 4 Missile Pod equipped Crisis Suits that's pretty poop!

The isn't really a lot to talk about for this one.  For the mission type I didn't think up a deployment plan fast enough. Having someone come over and say "You should be using Piranha's" got me pretty pissed off. Based on the way the game had gone they wouldn't have made much difference and it was an obvious "I've read on the internet this is what you need to do" type comment as it wasn't follow up with any reason for why they should be there.

Meh, I still hate Space Marines.  Getting the motivation to turn up for Monday night gaming will be tough now, this is the the first time Ive actually felt totally fed up with Tau. We all get pissy and emo when we loose a game. Guess tonight is my time.

Don't get discouraged! You're analyzing what worked, what didn't, and what you would/should have done differently. Tau can sometimes be frustrating, because they don't leave a lot of room for error, but don't get fed up yet. Regroup and try again!

(And yes, the unsolicited, unsupported advice can be maddening.)

Just put it down to a learning experience. Tau are very unforgiving if you get the deployment and target priority for the first couple of turns wrong.

I felt the same after I was massacred by a Guard gunline, but later on reflection, as you did, I noticed things I should have done differently.

The extra knowledge will always be helpful for the next games :)

Yeah, I guess if im taking anything from the match it's that I know in my head i'm not changing my 1750 list I'm now using. To hell with Prianha's, I'll learn how to use the Kroot properly first!
Dave took a few photo's so as soon as they're up i'll pick apart my deployment. GiR was there to watch the slaughter, hopefully he can give a neutral observer's insight.
