Turn 1 and 2 shooting would look something like this.. |
Ok I was reading Tau of War and started to write out my own 1750 Mobile Gunline List. When I was doing this I then thought up something even more non standard but still potentially fun and challenging to play!
5 Crisis Suit Teams, and 5 Vehicles with the entire army at Ballistic Skill 4 (except the Firewarriors)
Let the missile bombardment commence!
Your screening element is a silly amount of firepower being laid down and the fact everything can move 12 to keep away and still bring the following to the party:
30 x str7 ap4 Missile Pods hitting on 3s (30 re-roll to hit!)
8 x str5 ap5 Smart Missiles hitting on 3s (ignoring line of sight)
3 x str10 Ap1 Railgun Solid Shots or 3 x Str6 ap4 Large Blast Templates.
Providing the enemy is more than 12 inch away your Tanks will always get a 50% chance to ignore anything shot at it. Regardless if it moved or not!
Commander Longshot's Missile Support Team.
1 x Shas'el - 87
Twin Linked Missile Pod, Flamer, Positional relay.
2x Shas'vre Bodyguard - 126
2 x Twin Linked Missile Pods, 2 x Targeting Array

The positional relay is there should you wish to drop a Deathrain team in behind some tanks for Av 10 popping happiness. (and giving your enemy a distraction) Deepstrike/reserve might be the way to play this army. I'd love to try this against Iggy's 1750 Mechdar, I know for a fact the 30 Missile Pods will scare the crap out of him!

Holy shit...
I can see it ending hilariously bad for me already :P
Your first commander is, sadly, illegal. He can't have a flamer AND twin-linked missile pods AND a positional relay. That's 4 hardpoints on a suit with only 3.
I don't know if the PosRel is really worth the points anyway, considering you're only reserving one unit of suits. Sure, you can bring in that one unit on turn two on a 2+, but it seems like it'd be better to have it on the table at turn 1. Otherwise, you've just cut out a fifth of your long-range firepower for a turn when you could really use it.
A couple of other nitpicks:
- Your point values on the Hammerheads are wrong (165, not 159; probably just carried over from the crisis team entries)
- Even with that correction, the list is only coming up to 1743; with that, you could throw a hard-wired target lock onto one of the two commander suits to give you finer fire control. Drop the PosRel, and you could have one on both commanders and on one of each of their bodyguard teams, which would allow your HQ squads to split their fire however they'd like.
Once you make the changes NG stated, this list becaomes very nasty, capable of engaging 10 targets with At fire at 36 inches. You also have the ability to pull off variant deployments and your vehicles all have Wundercuver D-pods!
You will get hurt fighting hordes, but focusing fire and disciplined movement can see you through all but the worst.
Fair points, yeah the
Hammerhead points is me just being forgetful as I still write out all my lists first. The positional relay was only added in at the last min as I found it came about 20 points short.
I'd love to give it at try and plan to magnetize all my future suits to give it a spin one day.
Nerd props if you change it to Commander Dynames.
