Ah yes, the Mont'ka (killing blow), and the Kauyon. (patient hunter) Right now what I consider to be the top Tau blogs are discussing the various methods of using these tactics within their army lists. From what I'm reading the results vary on the regular opponents each blogger comes up against and also the points used in each battle. (1500, 1750, 2000)
As much as I'd love to comment on this I'm still new to Tau so you're not going to get any in-depth analysis from me, as feel like i'd make a lot of school boy errors. (Think of it as the fresh recruit questioning the veteran General on tactics hehe) One thing for sure is that's it's dam interesting reading! Having all the blogs on my blog rolls means every time I've on my site I can see when there is a new update from; Shoot Tau Thrill , NockerGeek , Tau of War (OSH) and Mis-modeled Firewarrior It's good to see them replying to each other, especially from a new player perspective looking for tactical advice.
For me personally, I'm really a Crisis Suit fanatic and find it hard to fit in everything suggested right now. I feel that adding Kroot and Pirhana's is more really due to, "because you have to" rather than, "it will help my play style". Can you win on just suits and tanks alone? (with troops hiding in Devilfishes) Well I'd like to see if I can try. My new list at 1500 has made up for the lack of firepower to deal with units like Space Marines and has a few surprises. Stepping up to 1750 basically is dropping Multi trackers for the 2 fishes and adding:
Another unit of 6 Pathfinder (swapping out the Firewarrior fish for a Pathfinder one)
10 Kroot
2 Piranha's with dpods, fusions and target arrays
The core firepower of the army stays the same and adds a screening element. When it comes to objective type games I'm hoping to simply remove the enemy through volume of fire.
I've decided I won't be posting the list till I've played it a few times to stop me changing things.
So, if you're looking for a good read about the Tau tactics according to their lore, take some time to read the above blogs, it's awesome to see the Tau community posting stuff like this in reply to each other as in the end, it's all for the greater good!
I missed Kroxitau from this post initially as his post came after this one. I've now added a link to his blog too, as to be honest his one made me think the most.(I also lol'd at the beating a dead horse image) Basically don't try to play someone else's game, Tau don't have some uber awesome game winning tactic that you can use every game. If you just copy a list from the internet then you're not really learning an army.
