Ok here is my first crack at a jumper list. I wanted to use my Sang Guard and Libby Dread but couldn't justify their points cost or their role for what I was wanting to do. (Basically lay down some firepower, then drop, shock, rock and roll)
I've been browsing lots of armies on the web to get idea's and see what other people are doing. One thing I'm keen to avoid is making them look too "Chaosy" half the time I feel people are going a bit overboard with the spikes etc. At their core the Flesh Tearers are a 2nd Founding Chapter fighting for the Emperor. I intend to make sure my guys look the part.
Librarian with Jump Pack - Blood Lance and Fear of the Darkness.
2 x Sang Priests with Jump Packs
4 x 5 Man Assault Squad - Meltagun, Sgt with Thunder Hammer
2 x 5 Man Vanguard Squad - Sgt with Thunder Hammer and Stormshield
2 x 5 Man Devastator Squad - 4 Missile Launchers
1495
43 Models in all. If anything I'm worried about the lack of guns as I'm so used to my Tau. The idea is for the Devastators to provide the long range support, the Vanguards to drop and deal with things like Loota's, Broadsides, etc and the Assault marines to pick their targets and support the Vanguard.
I see the army likely hitting on flanks then using their mobility to cover ground to the next target. I chose Fear of the Dark over Shield as there is so many things you can cause to have a bad day with it. Granted it has a limited range but if I'm in a situation were I need to rely on 5+ covers saves, I'm already up the creek without a paddle.
Stepping up to 1750 I'd add a third unit of Devastators and maybe another Librarian.
This army is to be a themed jumper list, I want 0 vehicles (I'd consider Land speeders at a push!)
A differently themed jumper... |
It's specifically to give me something else to play than my Tau and to give me an awesome load of fun with conversions, yet remaining a fairly small army in all to collect and paint. Please think about that before giving feedback involving Razorbacks, Landraiders or Stormravens! ^^

Here is my opinion. I see part of the reason for doing jumpers is the flexibility of it. what happens if you decide you want to DOA in? or go second or worse have dawn of war? then the Devs are taking atleast 1 turn of walking in, maybe two to get to a good firing position.
I can understand in a hybrid list, but when everything else of yours is jumpers, idk.
Also, do you feel you need all of those thunderhammers? why have all of them 5 man squads? do 10 man, save 10 points, and have the option to combat squad in non-killpoint missions.
Maybe add combi-meltas to the priests. In five man squads they widdle down fast and get to your Ics pretty easy.
I want a pure Jumper List as I want a themed army rather than a hybrid one. I've already looked at 10 man squads with 2 melta's and 1 powerfist, but to be honest I just love thunderhammers and the coversion potential. I might also up the priest to have a lightning claw or powerweapon. Still trying to gather thoughts on an all DOA list. Seems hybrid is the way but I like to be different :P
