First of all, Happy New Year everyone! Sadly I was working till 11 last night and I'm starting again at 12 today so no parties for me last night.
On the Tau front, things ain't looking too great. My models have been packed away for about 2 months now. I was able to secure a ticket for the doubles tournament but had to pull out as there was other things I was already going to be spending money on early this year (namely a bass guitar) and wasn't able to pay for both. I also had no motivation to paint my remaining models.
However...
In the back of my head I want to re-load my Tau, start fresh and do all the stuff I should have done. (like magnetize the weapons and have a colour scheme set before I start painting) - I also think I might use Forgeworld for all the Crisis Suits. Basically I want to get away from the shiny shiny toy look and have the army looking more like a bunch of vets who's seen their fair share of combat.
I've read the recent Tau rumors and don't buy them tbh. Deepstrike heavy weapons? If it can't shoot the turn it lands it's shit and will be taken out by the enemy. If it can shoot the turn it lands it can be abused sooo badly.
Open top transport? I know I'll use my Pathfinders that can't move and shoot the same turn. Yeah that's handy when I need them every turn to be lighting up targets.
Stuff these new rumors, just give me Hazard Suits and an option to move my Suits as either Jump Shoot Jump or a standard Jet pack move. That will give me the mobility and flexibility I need.

The Tau rumours seem dodgy as the codex is probably not coming out until at least mid-autumn next.... I mean this year.
But I wouldn't discount them entirely. In the Taros Campaign there are drone turrets which can deepstrike and have heavy weapons like Fusion Blasters. But I agree on the open-topped transport. I mean why would Tau have that? Apart from a primitive Piranha, as they were first used as VIP transports, I can't see any reason behind it.
However I do like the sound of something you haven't mentioned here, a large flyer transport that can carry multiple squads and even suits, much like an Orca.... or a Stormraven......
It isn't that crazy.
Also, that's bad news on not getting to go to the Doubles but great news about getting a bass guitar, have fun with it.
